The new home of Angling Clubs and fishing in the County

Wicklow is a County of Mid Eastern Ireland, known as the GARDEN OF IRELAND.  The County of Wicklow covers an area of over 200,000 hectares from Dublin to its North the Wicklow Mountains to its West, its eastern boundary is the Coast and the Irish Sea.

Most Wicklow rivers are spate rivers, rising in the Wicklow Mountains and draining huge areas of forest and peat bog. This makes the rivers quite acidic.

The quality of the waters in Wicklow are typically Q4-5 or Q5 very healthy, with the notable exception of a section of the Avoca where leeching from ancient mines pollutes the river, but a short term solution to this problem  is being operated by the local Fisheries Board, whereby the river upstream of the pollution is netted by fixed nets during the  May, Summer migration to catch Smolts heading seaward. These fish are collected and transported downstream and released  into clean water to continue their journey to the sea.
